Snan (Bath) & Sankalpa
स्नान और संकल्प
Take a bath early in the morning before sunrise. Wear clean black or dark blue clothes. Sit facing west (Shanidev's direction) or south-west. Take a sankalpa (resolve) — state your name, gotra, and intention.
सूर्योदय से पहले स्नान करें। काले या गहरे नीले वस्त्र पहनें। पश्चिम या नैऋत्य दिशा की ओर मुख करके बैठें। संकल्प लें — अपना नाम, गोत्र और उद्देश्य बोलें।

Shani Idol / Image Setup
शनि प्रतिमा स्थापना
Place a Shanidev idol, image, or Shani Yantra on a black cloth. Shanidev is depicted as dark-complexioned, riding a crow, holding a sword and trident. Alternatively, an iron nail hammered into black wood serves as a symbolic representation.
काले कपड़े पर शनिदेव की प्रतिमा, चित्र या शनि यंत्र स्थापित करें। शनिदेव श्यामवर्ण, कौए पर सवार, खड्ग और त्रिशूल धारण किए हुए हैं। लोहे की कील को काली लकड़ी में ठोककर भी प्रतीकात्मक रूप दे सकते हैं।

Diya Prajvalan (Light the Lamp)
दीपक प्रज्वलन
Light a mustard oil (sarson tel) diya. Use a cotton wick. Never use ghee for Shani — mustard or sesame oil is essential. Light the diya facing west.
सरसों तेल का दीपक जलाएं। रूई की बाती का उपयोग करें। शनिदेव के लिए घी का दीया नहीं जलाते — सरसों या तिल का तेल अनिवार्य है। दीपक पश्चिम दिशा में जलाएं।
Diya Mantra
दीपज्योतिः परं ब्रह्म दीपज्योतिर्जनार्दनः।
दीपो हरतु मे पापं दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
दीपो हरतु मे पापं दीपज्योतिर्नमोऽस्तु ते॥
The lamp is the supreme Brahman. The lamp is Janardan. May the lamp destroy my sins. I bow to the light of the lamp.

Til Tarpan (Sesame Offering)
तिल तर्पण
Mix black sesame seeds with water in a copper vessel. Offer a stream of til-water on the Shanidev image or Yantra while chanting. This is the most important offering — done 7, 11, or 108 times.
तांबे के पात्र में काले तिल और जल मिलाएं। शनिदेव की प्रतिमा या यंत्र पर मंत्र बोलते हुए तिल-जल की धारा अर्पित करें। यह सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अर्पण है — ७, ११ या १०८ बार करें।

Sarson Tel Abhishek (Oil Offering)
सरसों तेल अभिषेक
Pour mustard oil slowly on the Shanidev idol or image. This is the signature offering of Shani puja. As you pour, chant the Shani beej mantra 108 times. The oil represents karmic liberation — just as oil smooths friction, Shani's grace smooths karmic obstacles.
शनिदेव की प्रतिमा पर धीरे-धीरे सरसों तेल चढ़ाएं। यह शनि पूजा का विशेष अर्पण है। तेल डालते समय शनि बीज मंत्र का १०८ बार जप करें। तेल कर्मिक मुक्ति का प्रतीक है।

Om Praam Preem Praum Sah Shanaischaraya Namah — the Shani beej mantra for karmic protection and grace.

Pushpa Arpan (Flower Offering)
पुष्प अर्पण
Offer blue or black flowers — blue lotus (neelkamal), indigo-colored, or dark purple blooms. Never use red flowers. Offer 7 or 21 flowers while chanting. Shami leaves (Shami patra) are also very dear to Shanidev.
नीले या काले पुष्प अर्पित करें — नीलकमल, इंडिगो रंग के या गहरे बैंगनी फूल। कभी भी लाल फूल न चढ़ाएं। ७ या २१ फूल मंत्र बोलते हुए अर्पित करें। शमी पत्र भी शनिदेव को अत्यंत प्रिय हैं।

Shani Chalisa / Stotra Path
शनि चालीसा / स्तोत्र पाठ
Recite Shani Chalisa or Dashrath Krit Shani Stotra with full devotion. You can also recite the Shani Kavach. The minimum is 7 names (Saptanaam) of Shanidev. Playing Shani Chalisa audio is equally effective.
पूरी श्रद्धा से शनि चालीसा या दशरथ कृत शनि स्तोत्र का पाठ करें। शनि कवच का पाठ भी कर सकते हैं। न्यूनतम शनि सप्तनाम का पाठ करें। शनि चालीसा का ऑडियो भी उतना ही प्रभावी है।
Shani Saptanaam (7 Names)
कोणस्थः पिंगलो बभ्रुः कृष्णो रौद्रोऽन्तको यमः।
सौरिः शनैश्चरो मन्दः पिप्पलाद-स्तुताय नमः॥
सौरिः शनैश्चरो मन्दः पिप्पलाद-स्तुताय नमः॥
Konastha, Pingala, Babhru, Krishna, Raudra, Antaka, Yama — the seven names of Shani. Salutations to him praised by Pippalada.

Iron / Urad Dal Offering
लोहा / उड़द दाल अर्पण
Place an iron item (nail, coin, small utensil) before Shanidev as an offering — iron is Shani's metal. Also place a handful of black urad dal. Both will be donated to the poor after puja — this act of giving is the true offering.
शनिदेव के सामने एक लोहे की वस्तु (कील, सिक्का, छोटा बर्तन) रखें — लोहा शनि की धातु है। साथ में एक मुट्ठी काली उड़द दाल भी रखें। पूजा के बाद इन्हें गरीबों को दान करें — यही सच्चा अर्पण है।
Daan Karma: After puja, donate the iron item and urad dal to a laborer, blacksmith, or the poor. This directly pleases Shanidev and resolves karmic debt.

Aarti
आरती
Perform Shani aarti with the mustard oil diya — move the aarti thali in clockwise circles before the deity. Ring the bell. Sing or play Shani Aarti: "Jay Jay Shri Shanidev…"
सरसों तेल के दीये से शनि आरती करें — आरती थाली को देवता के सामने दक्षिणावर्त घुमाएं। घंटी बजाएं। शनि आरती गाएं या बजाएं: "जय जय श्री शनिदेव..."

Victory to Shri Shanidev, the benefactor of devotees. Son of the Sun, whose mother is Chhaya.

Pradakshina, Prarthana & Daan
प्रदक्षिणा, प्रार्थना और दान
Do 7 pradakshinas (circumambulations) around the Shani idol or image. Offer your prayer sincerely. Then go outside and donate black items — black cloth, black sesame, iron, urad dal, mustard oil — to the poor, laborers, or sweepers. Feed crows (Shani's vehicle). This charitable act is the crown of Shani puja.
शनि की प्रतिमा के चारों ओर ७ प्रदक्षिणाएं करें। हृदय से प्रार्थना करें। फिर बाहर जाकर काली वस्तुएं — काला वस्त्र, काले तिल, लोहा, उड़द दाल, सरसों तेल — गरीबों, मजदूरों या सफाईकर्मियों को दान करें। कौओं को खाना खिलाएं (शनि का वाहन)। यह दान ही शनि पूजा का मुकुट है।
Shanidev is most pleased by service to the poor and laborers. Every act of helping the downtrodden on Saturday is equivalent to a full Shani puja. / शनिदेव दीन-दुखियों की सेवा से सर्वाधिक प्रसन्न होते हैं।

Dashrath Krit Shani Stotra (Opening Verse)
नमः कृष्णाय नीलाय शितिकण्ठनिभाय च।
नमः कालाग्निरूपाय कृतान्ताय च वै नमः॥
नमः कालाग्निरूपाय कृतान्ताय च वै नमः॥
Salutations to the dark blue one, to he who resembles Shiva of the blue throat. Salutations to the form of the fire of time, and again to the lord of fate.
